G028 Trawler Construction for Astilleros Armón

The Challenge

EIA21 participated in the detailed engineering and 3D design of the vessel’s critical propulsion and auxiliary service areas, supporting the construction of the G028, a next-generation trawler designed for demanding fishing operations.

The scope included equipment arrangement, piping system design, and spatial coordination of the engine room, ensuring optimal use of available space and seamless integration of all onboard systems.

Machinery spaces on fishing vessels typically involve a high density of equipment, piping, and auxiliary systems, requiring highly accurate engineering solutions to guarantee operational efficiency, accessibility, and maintainability throughout the vessel’s service life.

Key project challenges included:

  • Integrating equipment and piping systems within highly constrained spaces.
  • Coordinating propulsion, auxiliary, and safety systems.
  • Optimizing piping routes to reduce clashes and facilitate installation.
  • Designing exhaust and ventilation systems that met operational and shipbuilding requirements.
  • Delivering engineering solutions aligned with shipyard standards and the vessel’s original design specifications.

The Solution

EIA21 developed a comprehensive 3D model using AVEVA E3D, enabling validation of equipment layouts, clash detection, and optimization of all onboard systems before construction commenced.

The main activities included:

  • Full 3D modeling of the engine room.
  • Layout design of main and auxiliary equipment.
  • Detailed piping and pipe support engineering.
  • Development of the emergency generator room.
  • Design of exhaust systems within the funnel casing.
  • Technical coordination with all project stakeholders.

Results

  • Successful completion of detailed engineering for the vessel’s critical technical areas.
  • Optimized utilization of available space within the engine room.
  • Reduced construction risks through advanced 3D clash detection and design validation.
  • Delivery of comprehensive engineering documentation for fabrication and installation.
  • Design fully aligned with the requirements of the shipowner, shipyard, and naval designer.
