The Challenge
The main challenge of the project was the development of a highly complex Basic Engineering package within a period of less than two months, working with limited information during the early stages while coordinating multiple international stakeholders.
Key challenges included:
- Fast-track engineering development under an exceptionally tight schedule.
- Coordination with international electrolyzer technology suppliers.
- Optimization of plant layout and battery limit interfaces during design development.
- Preparation of a deliverables package equivalent to an advanced engineering phase.
- Execution of additional activities initially assigned to other contractors.
- Collection of technical and commercial information to develop reliable CAPEX estimates.
International coordination required continuous communication with electrolyzer manufacturers, technology licensors, the client, and the project owner.
The Solution
To achieve the project’s objectives, EIA21 mobilized a senior multidisciplinary team specialized in complex industrial and energy projects.
The scope of work included:
- International Coordination: Direct interaction with electrolyzer manufacturers and technology suppliers through technical meetings, clarification management, and continuous document review.
- FEL and FEED Engineering: Development of the technical definition of the project, general layout, preliminary balances, cost estimates, and investment decision support documentation.
- CAPEX Estimation: Collection of technical and commercial information through additional supplier and contractor inquiries to improve investment cost accuracy.
- Change Management: Continuous adaptation of the design to client-driven modifications throughout project development.
- Comprehensive Technical Support: Execution of additional engineering activities to ensure document quality and compliance with project deadlines.
Results
EIA21 successfully delivered the engineering package within the required schedule, providing a solid technical foundation for the subsequent project phases.
Key results:
- FEL and FEED Engineering completed in less than two months.
- Development of technical documentation equivalent to an advanced engineering package.
- Effective coordination between the client, project owner, and international suppliers.
- Optimized CAPEX estimation to support investment decision-making.
- Design fully aligned with the project’s operational and technical requirements.
- Comprehensive support throughout the early project development phases.
