The Challenge
The implementation of the new electric furnace required the adaptation of an operating industrial facility, integrating new equipment and systems with the existing infrastructure.
Key project challenges included:
- Integration of the new electric furnace and its auxiliary systems.
- Design and sizing of a new industrial building.
- Coordination with international technology suppliers.
- Adaptation of electrical, control, and piping systems.
- Integration of the new systems with existing plant operations.
- Ensuring safe access for operation and maintenance activities.
Additionally, the project required continuous multidisciplinary coordination to ensure the proper implementation of all engineering disciplines involved.
The Solution
EIA21 developed the Basic and Detailed Engineering for the project, continuously coordinating with the client, suppliers, and technical teams to obtain the information required during the different design stages.
The scope of work included:
- Multidisciplinary engineering: Development of civil, structural, process, piping, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering to integrate the new furnace within the existing plant.
- New industrial building design: Definition of spaces, access routes, maintenance requirements, and operational safety criteria.
- Design of raw material storage buildings.
- Modifications to existing buildings for the installation of new equipment.
- Integration with existing facilities: Connection of the new process to existing industrial infrastructure while ensuring operational continuity.
- Procurement management and technical support: Preparation of technical requisitions for equipment, supplies, and installation services.
- Technical support during equipment procurement and contract award processes, including coordination with specialized suppliers and selected contractors.
Results
EIA21’s involvement enabled the development of a solution tailored to the operational and production requirements of the facility, ensuring the efficient integration of the new manufacturing process.
Key results:
- Multidisciplinary engineering developed for a highly complex industrial facility.
- Complete integration of the new electric furnace with existing installations.
- Adaptation of buildings, utilities, and industrial systems.
- Effective coordination between the client, suppliers, and project teams.
- Design aligned with the safety, operation, and maintenance criteria defined by the client.
