Combined Cycle Power Plant Termocentro (1,080 MW)

The Challenge

The Termocentro Combined Cycle Power Plant represented a major milestone for EIA21 as the company’s first combined cycle power generation project.

Key project challenges included:

  • Execution of EIA21’s first combined cycle power plant project.
  • Development of a complete 3D model using PDS despite having no previous experience with the platform.
  • Continuous adaptation to evolving client requirements across all engineering disciplines.
  • Multidisciplinary coordination with Siemens for the integration of major equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Execution of advanced process calculations, including pressure drop analyses and pump sizing studies.
  • Implementation of the first intelligent P&IDs developed by EIA21.
  • Design and modularization of pipe racks to optimize costs and minimize on-site construction activities.

The Solution

To address the project’s technical and operational challenges, EIA21 implemented a strategy based on technological innovation, specialized engineering expertise, and international coordination.

The scope of work included:

  • Implementation of CADWorx for initial 3D modeling and subsequent migration of the project to PDS.
  • Incorporation of specialized engineering personnel to strengthen modeling and design capabilities.
  • Technical coordination with Siemens through engineering workshops and working sessions in Orlando, USA, together with Duro Felguera’s team.
  • Development of process and equipment engineering in compliance with Siemens’ technological standards.
  • Definition and implementation of a modularization strategy that significantly reduced field installation activities.
  • Supervision of module fabrication and assembly to ensure quality and compliance with project specifications.
  • Detailed engineering development across all major disciplines.
  • Procurement management and technical support during equipment acquisition phases.

Results

  • Final design fully aligned with client requirements and project specifications.
  • Successful integration of advanced engineering and 3D modeling technologies.
  • Implementation of EIA21’s first intelligent P&ID system.
  • Optimization of construction costs and schedules through modularization strategies.
  • Strengthening of EIA21’s capabilities in combined cycle power generation projects.
