The Challenge
EIA21 is participating in the detailed engineering development of the North Field South (NFS) Desalination Plant, a key infrastructure project supporting Qatar’s industrial expansion and growing water demand.
The scope focuses on the Electrical and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) disciplines, with EIA21 fully integrated into ACCIONA Agua’s engineering team to ensure compliance with the project’s technical, operational, and construction requirements.
The project presented several engineering and coordination challenges:
- Developing detailed engineering for a large-capacity and technologically advanced desalination facility.
- Integrating electrical and instrumentation systems within a collaborative BIM environment.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary and international engineering teams.
- Meeting demanding quality standards and project delivery schedules.
- Ensuring seamless integration of power, control, automation, and communication systems throughout the plant design.
The Solution
EIA21 deployed a specialized engineering team working as a direct extension of ACCIONA Agua’s organization.
The main activities included:
- Development of Detailed Engineering for Electrical and I&C systems.
- 3D and BIM model development and coordination using Autodesk Revit.
- Continuous review and validation of engineering and construction documentation.
- Multidisciplinary coordination to ensure overall design consistency.
- Adaptation of engineering solutions to comply with project-specific and client requirements.
Results
- Successful delivery of Detailed Engineering in accordance with ACCIONA Agua standards and project requirements.
- Efficient integration of electrical and control systems into the overall plant design.
- Effective multidisciplinary coordination within a collaborative BIM environment.
- Delivery of engineering solutions aligned with quality, functionality, and constructability objectives.
- Strengthening EIA21’s position in large-scale international water treatment and desalination projects.
